Preserving the Carate River Valley Rainforest
Our work is just beginning.
To date, we have protected over 375 acres of pristine rainforest through land purchases and conservation easements. Now, the White Hawk Foundation is working to raise $15 million to permanently protect the entire Carate River Valley Rainforest from commercial development, which threatens to introduce ecologically harmful infrastructure.
We need your help.
Preserving this land and its biodiversity is imperative—once lost, it can never be regained. The Carate River Valley is crucial for protecting the Osa Peninsula’s intense biodiversity, since it borders Corcovado National Park. Corcovado is home to an array of tropical ecosystems and is recognized as one of the world’s most biodiverse regions. It hosts species like macaws, jaguars, several kinds of monkeys, and the diverse plant life that supports them.
The Osa Peninsula plays a key role in conserving essential water resources and combating the greenhouse effect. Despite covering only 5% of Costa Rica’s land, it holds over 50% of the country’s biodiversity. We urgently need your support to protect this critical area.
