Introduction

​

The White Hawk Foundation (WHF) is a non-profit foundation based in the United States and Costa Rica, dedicated to the survival of the ecosystems and biodiversity of the tropical rainforest on Costa Rica's Osa Peninsulo.  With the objective of generating alliances with individuals, institutions, organizations, and networks- promoting the exploration, research and dissemination of the biodiversity of the Osa Peninsula, one of the biologically richest regions of the earth with 2.5% of the world's biodiversity.

Our foundation wishes to promote bio-literacy and the biological appreciation of the Osa Region to raise awareness among the local and international community about the importance of the preservation and conservation of the last fragment of the rainforest of the Central American Pacific.

The rainforests congregate the greater variety of species, conforming the most complex ecosystems in the world. However, it also corresponds to the areas most threatened by livestock, agricultural and tourism expansion that compromise the connectivity of ecosystems and the viability of vulnerable people. Throughout our history, we have acquired 150 acres of tropical forest (60 hectares) that are protected forever in our natural reserve. In addition, we are in negotiation of 300 hectares of forest under contract in the community adjacent to the buffer zone of Corcovado National Park.

Objectives

​

1. To collaborate with national and international research institutions, organizations and businesses to improve the understanding and exploration of one of the most biodiverse places on earth.

2. To create a buffer zone and expand critical habitat corridors around the Corcovado National Park by acquiring privately held lands along the borders to ensure the survival of native populations and to prevent isolation and extinction

3. To achieve a conservation model of sustainability in our local community and beyond.
